Simply stated, Linguistics is the study of human language. Linguists conduct formal studies across the world’s 6000+ languages to gain insight to one of the most fundamental aspects of being human, our ability to communicate through language. Our students study speech, sounds, words, sentences, and meaning with a focus on the English language and explores how language influences our human experiences, identities, and our society.
We are proud to house one of only two linguistics programs in the State of Colorado.
