As an English student, you have access to professional academic advisors and faculty advisors that can help you navigate college. Whether you’re needing help with general academic advising, deciding on a major, sorting out transfer credit, looking for referrals, choosing classes for next semester, or exploring careers, we’ve got you covered.
It is common for students to have more than one advisor during their time at MSU Denver.
English students generally work with their professional academic advisor first and then transition to working with faculty advisors.
When to meet with a Professional Academic Advisor...
- If you are exploring the English major or minor
- If you have questions about your General Studies requirements
- If you need help with registration systems or tools like the Degree Progress Report
When to meet with a Faculty Advisor...
- If you have questions about major, area of emphasis, or concentration requirements
- If you are an English Major, B.A. with Secondary English Teacher Licensure Concentration
- If you need assistance with internship opportunities, career or graduate school advice
Current Advising Options and Formats
Professional academic advisors and faculty advisors offer different advising options and formats. We suggest checking with your advisor before scheduling.
In-person drop-in advising is where you can talk one-on-one with an advisor during scheduled drop-in times. Drop-in sessions typically last 10-15 minutes and should be used for quick questions and small requests. During in-person drop-in, you will connect with your advisor face-to-face in a physical location such as an office, or a meeting or conference room.
Pro tip: No appointment is needed for drop-in times, however, there may be a limited number of spots each day. Come early, as advising spots are first come, first served.
Virtual drop-in advising is where you can talk one-on-one with an advisor during scheduled drop-in times. During virtual drop-in, advisors will connect with students online for video call appointments (either through Microsoft Teams or Zoom).
